New Sod, Gravel Borders & Landscape Lighting in Murrieta, CA

This Murrieta homeowner had a front lawn that had been going downhill for years. Part grass, part weeds, part bare dirt, all in the same yard. Never bad enough to force the issue, never good enough to look right.

Everything around it was in good shape. Ornamental grasses, flowering shrubs, and a healthy queen palm in the middle. So the homeowner didn't want the whole yard redone. They wanted the middle brought up to match the edges, with a clean line where the lawn meets the driveways on both sides.

We pulled the old lawn out first. Grass, weeds, and roots, all hauled off, worked carefully around the existing plants and the base of the palm so nothing got damaged.

Then we set the shape, which is the part most people never think about. We marked the new lawn with paint and flags, squared the edges to both driveways, and ran the front line straight along the sidewalk. Black edging locked that layout in so the border stays where we put it. The natural stone along the upper beds got reset and cleaned up to match.

Landscape fabric went down everywhere outside the lawn, then tan and brown gravel over it, picking up the same tones already in the beds. We planted drought tolerant grasses through the gravel and ran drip line to the planting areas plus a ring around the palm. The landscape lighting went in at this stage too, since the wiring runs under the gravel, and at night it lights up the border and the grasses along both sides.

That gravel band does a lot of quiet work. It frames the lawn and gives the front of the house its own look instead of blending in with every other yard. It also keeps sod off the hot concrete edges where grass always browns out first, and it cuts down how much lawn there is to water without making the yard feel smaller.

Sod went in last. Fresh cut, laid tight, trimmed clean around the palm and along every edge we had set, then pressed flat and watered in. The beds and the palm never moved, but the whole front of the house reads different now. The part of the yard that used to drag everything down is the first thing you notice.
